United Nigeria Airlines on Sunday reported another bird strike incident involving one of its Airbus A320 aircraft in Abuja, marking the second such occurrence in less than 24 hours and the fourth for the airline in 2026.

In a statement, the airline said the affected aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service for detailed inspections in line with safety and regulatory standards, resulting in disruptions to some flights across its network.

“In line with our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service for comprehensive technical inspections before returning to operations,” the statement read.

The airline confirmed that a total of two Airbus aircraft have been withdrawn from service within 24 hours, affecting scheduled flights. United Nigeria Airlines assured passengers that measures were in place to minimise inconvenience and provide support to affected travellers.

“United Nigeria Airlines remains firmly committed to upholding the highest safety standards,” the company added, reiterating that the aircraft will only return to service after passing thorough airworthiness checks.

Bird strikes are a recognised aviation risk, particularly during take-off and landing, and mandatory inspections are required globally before aircraft can resume operations.
