The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will proceed as scheduled in Kenya”,”east africa”], Tanzania”], and Ugandaement to 2028.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated on Friday that preparations are on track and that CAF is committed to working closely with the host nations to ensure the tournament meets the highest international standards.
“This will be the first AFCON jointly hosted by three countries in East Africa,” Motsepe said after a CAF executive committee meeting. “We have done a lot to ensure AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains to host it there. I believe we will hold a very successful tournament.”
Although official dates are yet to be announced, CAF has indicated that the competition is likely to take place in June and July, just ahead of Kenya’s general elections in August. CAF has emphasised that stadium renovations, training facilities, and transportation networks across the three countries are being closely monitored to ensure readiness.
East Africa last hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 1976, with Ethiopia serving as the sole host.
