The Abia State Government has refuted reports circulating on social media claiming that Governor Alex Otti filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government at the World Court over the approval of a cargo airport in Aba.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, described the claim as entirely fabricated and misleading. He stressed that Governor Otti has not approached or petitioned any international court regarding the airport or any other matter.
Kanu emphasised that aviation infrastructure approvals in Nigeria are governed by established national regulatory and administrative frameworks. He described the social media report as reckless, designed to mislead the public, and capable of inflaming ethnic tensions.
“At no time has the Abia State Government contemplated, let alone initiated, any international litigation on such matters,” the statement read. “The suggestion that a sitting governor would bypass constitutional processes to accuse Nigeria of marginalisation or genocide before an imaginary World Court exposes the desperation and irresponsibility of the authors of this propaganda.”
The commissioner added that Governor Otti remains committed to lawful engagement, national unity, and constructive collaboration with the federal government. He also warned that the state reserves the right to take action against individuals or platforms deliberately spreading falsehoods.
“The Abia State Government advises the public to disregard this fake report entirely and urges media practitioners to verify information from credible and official sources before publication,” the statement concluded.
