The British Royal Family has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will embark on a high-profile State Visit to the United Kingdom next month.
The announcement was made via the Royal Family’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), where it disclosed that the Nigerian leader has accepted an invitation from King Charles III.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, has accepted an invitation from His Majesty The King to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from Wednesday, 18th March to Thursday, 19th March 2026,” the statement read.
According to the announcement, the visit will be hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, one of the most historic royal residences in the United Kingdom. The choice of venue highlights the significance of the visit and the importance attached to Nigeria–UK relations.
State Visits are the highest form of diplomatic engagement between nations and are usually marked by ceremonial welcomes, state banquets and high-level discussions. Key issues expected to feature during the visit include trade and investment, security cooperation, climate action and broader Commonwealth relations.
Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy and one of the most influential members of the Commonwealth, maintains strong historical, political and economic ties with the United Kingdom. Observers say the visit provides an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of partnership.
The visit will also be one of the most prominent engagements between Nigeria and the British monarchy since King Charles III ascended the throne, further reinforcing longstanding ties rooted in shared history and Commonwealth membership.
