Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling the social contract with the people of the state, despite ongoing political challenges.
The governor made this known on Wednesday while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation of internal roads in the old Port Harcourt township, as well as the proposed site for the construction of a modern market at the Creek Road Market area.
Governor Fubara stressed that his administration remains firmly focused on governance, noting that the trust reposed in it by the people of Rivers State must be repaid with purposeful and confidence-driven leadership.
“No matter the situation, we will not lose focus on governance because our people have given us their trust,” the governor said. “What we owe them is to give them confidence in leadership and ensure that governance continues strongly.”
He explained that the rehabilitation of roads and the planned construction of the new Creek Road Market are part of deliberate efforts to restore the lost glory of the old Port Harcourt township. According to him, the projects are designed to eliminate street trading, improve traffic flow, and enhance the overall aesthetics of the area.
Governor Fubara observed that the current condition of Creek Road has made movement difficult for motorists and pedestrians alike. He added that relocating traders from the streets into a well-structured and modern market would ease congestion and allow for free vehicular movement.
“When this market is fixed, those trading along the streets will be moved into the market, and the road will be free for traffic,” he said. “As the roads are properly rehabilitated, the beauty of the town will begin to reflect again.”
The governor further disclosed that construction work on the Creek Road Market is expected to commence within one week, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to deliver people-oriented projects that positively impact daily life in the state.
