Retired Gen. Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, on Friday officially assumed office as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.
Musa, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday following the resignation of former minister Muhammed Badaru, received Senate confirmation on Thursday. His appointment has been widely welcomed across various sectors, with many highlighting his innovative and firm leadership as Chief of Defence Staff between 2023 and 2025.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, Musa arrived at the ministry at about 11:10 am, inspected the quarter guard in line with military tradition, and exchanged pleasantries with service chiefs and top ministry officials.
He is currently engaged in a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and directors of the ministry to discuss defence priorities and strategic operations.
Musa’s appointment is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s defence operations and enhance coordination across the country’s military and security institutions.
