Tinubu to Announce New Ambassadors Amid Diplomatic Row with U.S.

Security agencies conclude vetting as tension rises over Trump’s threat on alleged Christian killings in Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may announce Nigeria’s new ambassadors as early as next week amid a growing diplomatic dispute with the United States over allegations of Christian killings in the country.

According to a report by Arise Television on Tuesday, President Tinubu has directed the nation’s security agencies to conclude the vetting process for ambassadorial nominees without delay.

“President Tinubu will announce new ambassadors, and this may be as early as next week, as security services have been directed to conclude vetting immediately,” Arise TV stated.

The development comes in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks alleging persecution of Christians in Nigeria and his warning of possible U.S. military intervention if the killings persist.

Earlier in April, reports surfaced that several prominent Nigerians, including former senator Shehu Sani, ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri, and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), were listed among potential ambassadorial nominees.

In a recent clarification, the Federal Government confirmed that the ambassadorial list has been finalised and would soon be made public following the completion of security vetting.

The expected appointments are part of the administration’s plan to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign relations and recalibrate its diplomatic engagement in response to current international challenges.
