Senator Ned Nwoko has defended polygamy, asserting that having multiple wives brings balance and stability to a man’s life.
The lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District stated this during an interview on Politics Today aired on Channels Television.
Nwoko, who is married to four wives, expressed sympathy for men who have only one wife, comparing their situation to “standing on one leg.”
“Yes, all men should do that. For instance, just imagine standing on one foot or leg. You know how difficult it is. But to stand on two, three or four is more balanced. So, I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg,” Nwoko said.
His comments come amid reports of tension in his household, following the unveiling of a new mansion by his last wife, Regina Daniels.
Addressing rumours of domestic violence, the senator dismissed the claims as baseless, stressing that he maintains a peaceful relationship with his family.
“I am not a violent person. I respect my wives and love them and my kids,” he added.
Nwoko further noted that he has no regrets about his marital choices, emphasising that love and respect remain the foundation of his family life.
The senator’s remarks have since sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some praising his candour and others criticising his views as outdated and patriarchal.
