Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed viral images linking him to former U.S. President Donald Trump and Lagos transport leader MC Oluomo as “fake and doctored.”
Taking to his verified ‘X’ handle on Wednesday, Obi insisted he never held such meetings, stressing that the photos were fabricated to mislead the public.
“One of the images falsely claimed Trump praised me, while another attempted to depict me in MC Oluomo’s office. These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society,” Obi wrote.
He warned that such actions are “not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public.”
Obi urged Nigerians and the international community to verify information before sharing, while rejecting what he described as a culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.
Clarifying further, Obi said if he ever held such meetings, he would personally announce them on his verified social media platforms. He emphasized that his politics is not about “praise or cheap publicity” but about tackling Nigeria’s pressing challenges—insecurity, education, healthcare, rule of law, and poverty reduction.
