Nollywood veteran and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed confidence that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will win the 2027 general elections and take over from the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Okonkwo made this declaration on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme.
The actor-turned-politician dismissed doubts over the party’s strength, insisting that the ADC has the capacity to contest and succeed in future elections.
“We stand a chance in every election in Nigeria,” Okonkwo said.
His remarks come after the ADC failed to secure any seat in the August 16 by-elections across 16 constituencies, where the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won 12 seats in nine states. The ADC leadership had earlier argued that it should not be judged by the outcome of those polls.
Okonkwo explained that the party’s poor showing was linked to contests where primaries were conducted before the emergence of the ADC’s new leadership under David Mark.
“I wouldn’t say the same thing for any election for which the primaries have been conducted before the coming into existence of David Mark’s leadership. Because we are not part of the people who decided that. That’s why I’m saying the true test of ADC will be in 2027,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the party’s future, Okonkwo added, “We are going to form the next government in Nigeria. And send Tinubu to Bourdillon.”
On the party’s structure in Rivers State, Okonkwo affirmed that the ADC is now present in all 36 states of the federation and identified former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the obvious leader of the party in Rivers.
