The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced the deployment of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to strengthen traffic management, bolster security surveillance, and enhance public safety across the state.
Speaking in a statement on Thursday, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the move marks a decisive shift from traditional analogue methods to advanced digital intelligence, aligning with the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
According to him, the drones will provide real-time aerial oversight of Lagos roads, enabling proactive traffic management, quicker interventions, improved emergency coordination, and a stronger security framework.
“Through aerial reconnaissance and high-definition monitoring capabilities, the UAVs will empower LASTMA to be proactive in traffic management and control across the state. This milestone elevates the authority from conventional reactive enforcement to predictive, intelligence-driven operations,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He assured residents that the deployment would strictly adhere to privacy safeguards, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance, reinforcing public trust in the system.
Bakare-Oki added that the technology will also complement LASTMA’s emergency response measures, helping reduce travel time, curtail accidents, and preserve lives and property.
The LASTMA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuous innovation and called on Lagos residents to take advantage of the authority’s Toll-Free Hotline (080000527862) to report emergencies and traffic-related incidents.
