Chelsea to Donate Part of Club World Cup Bonuses to Late Jota’s Family

Liverpool have announced a series of tributes in Jota’s honour, including a memorial sculpture at Anfield, a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their 2025/26 kits, and a grassroots football programme through the LFC Foundation.

Chelsea Football Club will donate part of the bonuses earned from their FIFA Club World Cup triumph to the family of late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.

The Blues lifted the trophy on July 13 after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey. The victory reportedly earned the club about $114.6 million (£84.4m), with $15.5 million (£11.4m) allocated to be shared among the players.

In a joint decision, the club and players agreed to give an equal payment from the bonus pool to Jota’s family, with each share valued at over $500,000 before deductions for taxes, currency conversion, and employer-related costs.

Jota and Silva, who played for Portuguese club Penafiel, died in a car accident in Zamora province, Spain, on July 3 — just ten days before Chelsea’s final.

Liverpool have announced a series of tributes in Jota’s honour, including a memorial sculpture at Anfield, a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their 2025/26 kits, and a grassroots football programme through the LFC Foundation.
