Allegri Returns to AC Milan with Champions League Ambitions

To aid in that mission, Milan has signed Luka Modric from Real Madrid. At 39, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner brings a wealth of experience and leadership to a team eager to reclaim its place among Europe’s elite.

Massimiliano Allegri vowed on Monday to rekindle AC Milan’s former glory as he returned to the club for a second spell as manager, following a disappointing season that saw the Rossoneri finish eighth in Serie A.

The club turned to the serial title-winner after parting ways with Sergio Conceicao, who lasted just five months at the helm during a campaign that ended without European qualification and included a Coppa Italia final defeat to Bologna.

“The goal for this season is to return to the Champions League, as a club like AC Milan has to play in Europe,” Allegri told reporters in Singapore, ahead of a pre-season friendly with Arsenal.

Now 57, Allegri previously managed Milan from 2010 to 2014, winning the Scudetto in his first season — the club’s first league title since 2004. He went on to achieve further domestic success with Juventus, securing five consecutive Serie A titles.

“It has been more than a decade since I first took charge of Milan. The situation is obviously different now… but the overall goal remains the same — to get this club back to where it belongs, and that is the Champions League,” he said.

To aid in that mission, Milan has signed Luka Modric from Real Madrid. At 39, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner brings a wealth of experience and leadership to a team eager to reclaim its place among Europe’s elite.

“Modric is a proven champion… a role model not only from the discipline but technical perspective,” Allegri said.

AC Milan, a seven-time European champion, now looks ahead to a rebuilding season under a familiar figure, aiming to return to the heights of continental competition.
