Fans Celebrate Wizkid at 35, Hail His Legacy as African Music Icon

“In a time when African youths were obsessed with foreign music, this man singlehandedly changed the game with Superstar.”

Nigerian global music superstar, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, turned 35 on Wednesday, July 16, and fans across the world took to social media to celebrate the milestone of the Grammy-winning Afrobeats icon.

With hashtags like #WizkidAt35, #StarBoy35, and #WizkidDay trending on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, thousands of supporters, industry peers, and admirers flooded timelines with congratulatory messages, nostalgic throwbacks, and heartfelt tributes to the Starboy himself.

“Happy Birthday to the Greatest to ever do it. Wizkid FC loves you forever,” wrote @itzbasito.

“35 years of greatness. Happy birthday to our GOAT, Machala himself!” added @dammiedammie35.

Other fans shared classic interview clips and performance highlights, celebrating the artist’s journey from Surulere, Lagos to global stardom.

Born July 16, 1990, in Lagos, Wizkid began making music at the age of 11 in his church group. He rose to prominence after signing with Banky W’s EME Records in 2009, and gained nationwide fame with the release of “Holla at Your Boy” in 2010. His debut album, Superstar (2011), became a genre-defining moment in modern Afrobeats.

Now a global ambassador for African sound, Wizkid has collaborated with Beyoncé, Drake, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and Skepta, earning prestigious honors such as BET, MOBO, MTV EMAs, and a Grammy Award for his work on Brown Skin Girl.

“Wizkid’s impact on the culture is unmatched. Legend living,” tweeted @omojuwa.

“Happy birthday to the man who changed the sound of Africa. May your reign never end,” added @itz_KingBryan.

Fans also paid tribute to his influence on African music’s global appeal, with @Cruzzzzzbabe writing:

As Wizkid marks 35 years of life—and over a decade of music industry dominance—supporters continue to salute his evolution, humility, and cultural relevance.

“You’re still as HOT as when you debuted… You will always reign forever,” posted @sakpo0007.

With more global collaborations and chart-topping music expected, Wizkid’s legacy as a living legend in African and global music remains firmly intact.
