The newly inaugurated President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Innocent Ohagwa, has called on tax professionals to take active interest in the ongoing tax reform bills in the country. He made this appeal during his acceptance speech at his investiture ceremony held in Lagos.
Ohagwa highlighted that the bills present unique opportunities to modernise and enhance Nigeria’s tax administration and revenue generation. He emphasized that professional engagement is crucial in shaping a more efficient and transparent tax system.
The tax reform efforts include several key legislative proposals: Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill
These bills have already been passed by the National Assembly and are awaiting presidential assent.
In his Democracy Day address, President Bola Tinubu acknowledged the legislative progress, stating, “I am deeply grateful to both chambers for your thorough consideration and deliberation of these bills, and I look forward to signing them into law soon.”
Ohagwa’s comments reinforce the CITN’s commitment to guiding and educating professionals in line with the future of tax policy in Nigeria.
