President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah Iwo, the President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria. The respected Islamic scholar passed away on Monday at the age of 81.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu described Sheikh Hadiyyatullah as a revered religious leader and a pillar of moral guidance.
A Life Dedicated to Islam and Humanity
President Tinubu praised the late cleric’s lifelong devotion to Islamic teachings and humanitarian causes. He described Sheikh Hadiyyatullah as a man who lived by the principles of Allah and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
“Sheikh Hadiyyatullah provided uncommon leadership to the Shariah Council. His influence and teachings shaped lives through his Shariah College in Iwo,” the President said.
Burial Scheduled in Iwo, Osun State
The cleric, who also founded the Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria, will be buried on Tuesday following Janazah prayers at the college grounds in Iwo.
A Strong Voice During the 2023 Elections
Tinubu recalled the crucial support of the Supreme Council for Shariah under Hadiyyatullah’s leadership during the 2023 general elections.
He noted that the Council, under the late scholar, stood firm for truth, justice, and unity. “The Council’s position against lies and propaganda was vital,” the President stated.
Call for Continuity and Prayers
Offering his condolences, President Tinubu extended sympathy to Sheikh Hadiyyatullah’s family, the people of Iwo, and the broader Islamic community.
He urged the Shariah Council to carry on the late leader’s mission. “Continue to promote justice, tolerance, unity, and peace across the nation,” Tinubu advised.
The President also prayed for the soul of the deceased, asking for Allah’s forgiveness and comfort for those left behind.
