President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue the 2027 elections.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, now assumes full leadership of the ministry as the government seeks to strengthen its diplomatic engagement and foreign policy direction.

In a related development, the President has also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate.

Enikanolaiye, from Kogi State, is a veteran diplomat with over three decades of service in Nigeria’s foreign service. He has held senior roles including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has served in diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to the statement, the appointments are part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy framework for improved efficiency, stronger international partnerships, and enhanced economic diplomacy.

President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to prioritise Nigeria’s national interest, promote regional stability, and protect the welfare of citizens both at home and abroad.

The leadership changes come as Nigeria continues to refine its diplomatic strategy amid shifting global alliances and increasing emphasis on economic-driven foreign relations.
