The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Austin Akobundu, has said the South East region of Nigeria stands to gain significantly if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar wins the next presidential election.

Akobundu made the remarks while expressing optimism about growing political support for Atiku, describing it as a reflection of trust and confidence in his leadership.

He said Atiku remains one of Nigeria’s most experienced politicians, adding that his background in governance, economic management, and national politics makes him well suited to address the country’s challenges.

According to the senator, Atiku’s understanding of Nigeria’s structural and economic issues positions him as a candidate capable of restoring stability and promoting national development.

Akobundu also argued that the South East would enjoy greater inclusion and opportunities under an Atiku-led administration, stressing the need for equity and stronger national integration.

He recalled Atiku’s role during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, noting his contribution to economic reforms and policy coordination at the time.

The senator further pointed to what he described as strong support for Atiku during the recent ADC presidential primary, saying the turnout reflected continued confidence in his political relevance.

Akobundu maintained that Atiku’s national outlook and political experience would be valuable in addressing Nigeria’s governance and development challenges.

The comments come amid ongoing political positioning ahead of the next general election, as various stakeholders continue to align and re-align within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
