Popular Nigerian social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known widely as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a dispute involving Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).
The development was confirmed on Friday evening by activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who revealed the incident via his official Facebook page.
According to Adeyanju, VDM was allegedly arrested in connection with his public criticism of GTB after unauthorized transactions were reportedly made from his mother’s bank account. He further claimed that VDM was lured and detained through a coordinated operation between the bank and EFCC operatives.
In a detailed update, the lawyer stated:
“VDM refused to come out of the cell; that he won’t see anyone. VDM was locked inside the GTB exit door for over five minutes to enable EFCC to arrest him and his friend.”
Adeyanju added that legal action will be pursued against GTB, describing the treatment of VDM as “inhumane.” A team of lawyers led by Marvin Omorogbe reportedly visited EFCC custody but were unable to speak with the influencer due to his refusal to leave his cell.
As of now, neither EFCC nor GTB has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
