Sadiq Umar has called on Valencia CF to maintain focus as the club continues its fight to secure La Liga safety following a vital victory over Athletic Club.
The Nigerian forward scored the only goal of the match at San Mamés, sealing a hard-fought 1–0 away win that further boosted Valencia’s push away from the relegation zone.
The strike marked his third goal in four league appearances, underlining his growing influence since returning to form in Spain.
Speaking after the match, Sadiq stressed the importance of consistency as the season approaches its decisive stage.
“These are three very important points for the team. We have to keep going like this,” he said.
The striker, who came off the bench to make an immediate impact, scored with his first touch of the game in the second half, highlighting Valencia’s collective effort in securing the result.
“It was the first ball I touched, but the most important thing is the team, that we work together,” he added.
Sadiq also acknowledged the difficulty of winning away at a tough venue like San Mamés but expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and mentality.
“Winning here is very important, at a tough stadium. We all knew that. We’re very happy,” he said.
Looking ahead to Valencia’s next fixture against Rayo Vallecano at Mestalla, he urged continued focus and determination as the club aims to finish the campaign strongly.
“Now we’re going to play at Mestalla. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy today, but we always try to give our best,” he said.
Sadiq’s latest goal continues his impressive resurgence, taking his tally to four goals and three assists in 17 La Liga appearances since joining Valencia.
After a difficult spell earlier in the season without scoring in seven consecutive matches, he has rediscovered form with goals against Mallorca, Girona, and now Athletic Club.
His contributions have helped lift Valencia to 12th place on 42 points, easing fears of relegation and strengthening their top-flight survival hopes.
