Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) produced a dramatic 5-4 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, in a breathtaking encounter that became the highest-scoring semi-final in the competition’s history.

The match at the Parc des Princes delivered relentless attacking football from both sides, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé each scoring twice in a pulsating contest that swung repeatedly in momentum.

Bayern opened the scoring through a Harry Kane penalty, but PSG quickly responded as Kvaratskhelia levelled before João Neves headed the hosts into the lead. Michael Olise restored parity at 2-2, only for Dembélé to convert a first-half stoppage-time penalty to give the reigning champions a 3-2 advantage at the break.

The second half continued at a frantic pace. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé added further goals to stretch PSG’s lead, seemingly putting the French side in control at 5-2. However, Bayern refused to collapse, with Dayot Upamecano and Luis Díaz pulling two goals back to set up a tense finale.

Despite Bayern’s late surge, PSG held on for a narrow advantage heading into the second leg.

The result leaves the tie delicately poised ahead of next Wednesday’s return at the Allianz Arena in Munich, where a place in the final in Budapest on May 30 will be decided.

PSG, coached by Luis Enrique, are chasing back-to-back Champions League titles, while Bayern are aiming to reach their first final since 2020, when they defeated PSG to win their sixth European crown.

With both sides showcasing elite attacking firepower, the second leg promises another high-intensity showdown between two of Europe’s most in-form teams.
