Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly as the European side continued their strong preparations for the upcoming World Cup with a second consecutive victory.

The match saw Portugal take an early lead through Pedro Neto, who capitalised on attacking pressure to put the hosts ahead.

Nigeria responded well and restored parity through Akor Adams, who found the back of the net to bring the Super Eagles level and inject renewed energy into the contest.

However, Portugal regained control of the match in the second half when substitute Francisco Conceição produced a moment of quality, curling a superb strike into the far corner to secure all three points for the hosts.

Despite a spirited performance and a determined equaliser, Nigeria were unable to find another breakthrough as Portugal managed the closing stages effectively to preserve their lead.

The result marks a positive end to Portugal’s World Cup preparations, as they head into the tournament on the back of successive wins.

For Nigeria, the defeat offers lessons ahead of upcoming fixtures, with positives drawn from Akor Adams’ equalising goal and the team’s overall resilience against a top European opponent.
