Kylian Mbappé is a major doubt for the upcoming El Clásico on May 10 after Real Madrid confirmed he sustained a thigh injury.
In an official statement released on Monday, the club said the France captain has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg.
Mbappé picked up the injury during Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Real Betis in La Liga last Friday, forcing him off the pitch.
Real Madrid, currently second in the Spanish top flight and trailing leaders FC Barcelona by 11 points, face RCD Espanyol on Sunday before their crucial showdown with Barcelona the following weekend.
The injury raises concerns for Madrid as they enter a decisive stage of the season, with the El Clásico potentially shaping the title race.
Mbappé’s availability will depend on his recovery over the coming days, with medical assessments expected to determine whether he can feature in either of the upcoming fixtures.
