The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as false, misleading, and without factual basis.
The denial was issued on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, who said the report circulating online was entirely fabricated.
According to the statement, there is no truth to claims that the governor has been directed to step down or that arrangements have been made for a succession process.
“We have noted with concern a false report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ‘ordered to resign on health grounds’… This report is false in its entirety,” the statement read.
The government stressed that the governor remains in good health, mentally sound, and fully engaged in the administration of the state.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State,” it added.
The statement also addressed reports of a recent meeting between the governor and his deputy, clarifying that it was a routine courtesy visit.
During the visit, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat reportedly informed the governor of his intention to contest for the governorship in the future, a discussion the government said was cordial and in line with normal political engagement.
The state government urged members of the public to disregard the report, warning against the spread of misinformation and politically motivated falsehoods.
It reaffirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu continues to oversee government affairs without interruption and remains fully committed to his responsibilities in Lagos State.
