Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has unveiled Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso also announced Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial District.
The announcement was contained in a statement shared via his official X account on Friday, in which he stated that the selections followed extensive consultations within the party.
According to him, the choices were guided by principles of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence.
“I am delighted to announce that His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has been selected as our Kano NDC gubernatorial candidate,” Kwankwaso stated.
He added that Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial seat under the party’s platform.
Kwankwaso expressed optimism about the party’s internal affirmation process and prayed for a peaceful and successful exercise ahead of the elections.
“As we proceed with today’s affirmation exercise, I pray for a seamless, peaceful, and successful process,” he said.
Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, a close ally of Kwankwaso, previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and held various political offices including Commissioner for State Affairs and Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area.
Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.
Kwankwaso reaffirmed that the party remains focused on unity and electoral success in the forthcoming 2027 polls.
