Chilean golfer Joaquin Niemann has confirmed that he has not yet committed to playing in LIV Golf for the 2027 season.
The 27-year-old made the disclosure after finishing tied for 21st at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in England. When asked about his future with LIV Golf, Niemann said, “No, nothing yet,” indicating that he has not signed an agreement for the new season.
Niemann is one of the leading players in LIV Golf and serves as captain of Torque GC. He joined the Saudi-backed breakaway golf league in 2022 and has won nine individual titles on the circuit, making him its most successful individual tournament winner.
However, LIV Golf is currently going through major changes as it prepares for 2027. The league filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States earlier this month after the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund stopped funding its future operations.
Private equity firm BC Partners has proposed investing about $300 million in a new version of the league, often referred to as “LIV 2.0”. Reports have indicated that the proposed 2027 schedule could contain 10 events, although details of the new structure are still being worked out.
The changes have left the future of several LIV Golf players uncertain. Niemann said he could not provide details about the league’s current situation when questioned by reporters.
“I have no idea,” he said when asked what he knew about LIV Golf’s plans.
The uncertainty comes as LIV Golf and its potential investors continue discussions over the league’s financial and operational future. The Financial Times reported that the Public Investment Fund has sought assurances that BC Partners intends to operate a professional golf league rather than focus mainly on LIV’s financial assets.
Despite the uncertainty, Niemann is planning to take a break from competitive golf. He said he would spend about three months in Chile, where he plans to work on his game and spend time with his family.
The golfer is expected to return to competition at the Australian Open in Melbourne in early December. Niemann won the Australian Open in 2023 and has also recorded strong performances in major championships, including a tied seventh-place finish at the US Open earlier this year.
For now, Niemann’s future remains undecided. His next move could become clearer as LIV Golf continues negotiations over its proposed 2027 structure and player commitments.
