First Lady Renames Women Development Center in Honor of Maryam Babangida’s Contributions to Women’s Development

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu earlier today in Abuja officially renamed the Women Development Center to Maryam Babangida National Center for
Women Development.

The renaming of the center was in recognition of the sterling contributions of the late Mrs. Maryam Babangida to the lives of Nigerian women especially at the grassroots, through her pet program, Better Life for Rural Dwellers.

“The sterling contribution of late Maryam has impacted women, especially those in rural areas and Africa as a whole.” The First Lady said

The first lady who commissioned the former National Women Development Centre as Maryam Babangida National Centre also unveiled her First Lady’s portrait and a compendium of activities of the First Lady and Wives of Governors of Nigeria 2015-2023.

During her address, Senator Tinubu applauded the Director General of the Center, Hajia Asabe Bashir Vilita, and her management staff for their ambition in moving for the renaming.

She also acknowledged the vital roles played by female National Assembly members who advocated the legislative action behind the modification of the name.

Representatives of the Babangida Family, Mohammed Babangida, and his brother, Aminu Babangida, expressed their appreciation to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the esteemed recognition vested upon their late mother.

Also with the First Lady was the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, and wives of State Governors, and APC National Women Leader Dr. Betta Edu, amongst others.
