Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is set to officially launch the Federal Government’s Energise Commercialisation Now initiative in Kano on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The initiative is designed to mobilise innovation, attract investment, and accelerate industrial production across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology is spearheading the programme as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem and promote industrial development.
Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this during a news conference on Thursday.
According to him, the three-day event will take place from April 23 to April 25 and will feature a series of activities aimed at promoting innovation and collaboration across sectors.
Waiya said the programme will place Kano State and the entire North-West region at the forefront of Nigeria’s innovation-driven economic transformation.
“Kano State has been honoured to host the national launch and the North-West zonal deployment of this historic programme under the distinguished leadership of Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and officially launch the initiative,” he said.
The Energise Commercialisation Now programme is expected to bring together representatives from the Federal and State Governments, including governors and First Ladies from the North-West region.
Participants will also include research institutions, universities, and polytechnics, as well as innovators, inventors, startups, and private sector investors.
Manufacturers, industry associations, development finance institutions, international partners, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders are also expected to attend the event.
Waiya explained that the official launch by the First Lady will be followed by a high-level panel discussion focusing on federal-state collaboration in innovation and industrialisation.
The event will also feature a mini exhibition showcasing selected innovations from across the region.
“With the support of the First Lady, the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and all stakeholders, Energise Commercialisation Now will unlock the innovative potential of our people and create lasting prosperity,” Waiya added.
