CITN Hosts Workshop to Boost Tax Reporting Skills for Finance Journalists

Aimed at empowering media professionals with a deeper understanding of taxation, the workshop will sharpen financial reporting in Nigeria.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) is organizing a one-day workshop for journalists and finance reporters. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

This initiative targets members of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN). The goal is to improve their understanding of tax-related topics and provide insights into emerging issues in taxation.

The session will feature a press briefing by the CITN President, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi. Following this, three experts will lead discussions on key topics:

  • Basic Taxation Terminologies
  • Tax Administration and Practice for Beginners
  • Tax Reporting for Media Practitioners

The event aims to enhance the journalists’ ability to inform and educate the public about tax matters. It will also serve as a platform to strengthen tax reporting across the media in Nigeria.

FICAN’s National Chairman and Prof. Godwin Oyedokun, CITN’s Chairman of Branding and Publicity Committee, emphasized the importance of this training. They noted that the workshop will be highly interactive.

In addition to the sessions, the workshop will also introduce an annual award for the Best Tax Reporter of the Year. Participants will receive certificates and CITN memorabilia.

This collaborative workshop underscores the role of the media in improving public understanding of taxation. It reflects CITN’s commitment to professional development in tax administration.

CITN was established in 1982 and chartered by the Federal Government in 1992. It sets standards for tax practitioners and administrators in Nigeria.

FICAN, an affiliate of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), was created to enhance financial reporting.
