Citizen Monitors has announced the successful conclusion of its 72 Hours X Space, held from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, bringing together prominent voices from politics, governance, civil society, media, finance, technology and public policy.

The three-day continuous engagement focused on the future of Nigeria, with discussions centred on democratic accountability, governance reforms, economic development, electoral integrity, citizen participation, national security, youth engagement and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The event featured a wide range of speakers, including political economist Professor Pat Utomi, National Democratic Coalition (NDC) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State Funso Doherty, APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel, and senior political aide to Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarewaju.

Other participants included BudgIT co-founder Seun Onigbinde, human rights advocate Rinu Oduala, legal practitioners Barrister Evans Ufeli and Barrister Festus Ogun, medical doctor and public affairs analyst Dr. Olufunmilayo, and political analyst Idris Zekeri.

Also featured were leadership and governance stakeholders such as Henry Shield of the Leadership and Accountability Initiative, NDC candidate for Alimosho Constituency Ife Salako, SBM Intelligence partner Cheta Nwanze, finance professional Sir Collins, social media influencer Lola Okunrin, cybersecurity expert Chinjindu Nwajei, media and tech personality Emir SirDam, journalist Jumoke Alawode-James, and political analyst Mindset.

Across the 72-hour marathon session, participants examined structural challenges and opportunities within Nigeria’s democratic system, stressing the need for stronger institutions, improved transparency and more accountable leadership.

Speakers also emphasised the importance of citizen engagement in safeguarding democratic processes and strengthening public trust in governance institutions.

Discussions further explored strategies to improve electoral credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections, alongside measures to enhance voter confidence and reduce irregularities in the electoral process.

Organisers described Citizen Monitors 72 Hours X Space as a civic engagement platform designed to connect citizens directly with policymakers, political actors, experts and thought leaders within Nigeria’s digital public sphere.

They noted that the initiative also served as a precursor to the launch of the Citizen Monitors App, which is expected to support civic participation and improve transparency in governance processes.

According to organisers, the strong turnout and engagement reflected growing public interest in issue-based dialogue and solutions-driven conversations that move beyond partisan divides.

They added that the platform also aims to support election results collation efforts by reducing errors and preventing falsification at collation centres in future elections.

Citizen Monitors expressed appreciation to all speakers, partners, volunteers and participants who contributed to the success of the three-day event.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting civic education, accountability, citizen participation and constructive national dialogue as Nigeria continues its democratic journey.
