Asisat Oshoala Bags Player of the Match Award as Barcelona Femeni Thrash Benfica in UWCL  

Nigerian footballer Asisat Oshoala was the heroine of Barcelona’s emphatic victory over Benfica in a UEFA Women’s Champions League clash on Wednesday, October 19.

Oshoala bagged a brace and also made two assists in the encounter as the Spanish side walloped their Portuguese counterparts 9-0.

Patricia Guijarro opened the scoring for Barcelona Femeni in the opening seconds before Aitana Bonmati made it two in the 14th minute.

Oshoala made it three with a sublime finish in the 34th minute, and Mariona Caldentey continued the thrashing in the 50th minute to make it 4-0.

In the 64th minute of the game, Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic scored to extend the lead and three minutes later, it was the turn of Geyse who found the back of the net.

Claudia Pina also registered her name on the score sheet in the 77th minute. Oshoala, with a deft touch, scored again in the 84th minute as Geyse also completed her brace four minutes later.

The Super Falcons striker has now scored three goals in all competitions for the former European champions this season.

Oshoala ranked 16th in world

Meanwhile, the Nigerian star was ranked 16th best at the 2022 women’s Ballon d’Or, after the ceremony in the French capital of Paris on Monday night, October 17.

The 28-year-old Super Falcons striker arrived at the Theatre du Chatelet in the company of some of her Barcelona Femeni teammates – including Alexia Putellas, who took home the award. [Sports brief]
