Spanish golf star Jon Rahm is reportedly preparing to leave LIV Golf after the 2026 season, in a development that could become one of the biggest stories in professional golf this year.
According to reports, sources close to LIV Golf believe Rahm could depart after the current campaign. However, no official announcement has yet been made by Rahm or LIV Golf, meaning his future remains uncertain.
Rahm, 31, is one of LIV Golf’s biggest names. He joined the Saudi-backed breakaway circuit in 2023 and became captain of Legion XIII. Since then, he has been one of the league’s most successful players.
The two-time major champion recently secured his third consecutive LIV Golf individual season championship, underlining his importance to the competition. He has also recorded multiple tournament victories during his time on the tour .
A Major Blow for LIV Golf?
Rahm’s reported departure would be a major setback for LIV Golf, especially at a time when the league is facing questions about its future.
LIV Golf has recently been working to secure new financial backing after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund decided not to continue its investment beyond the 2026 season. The league later announced that it had secured a new lead investor, with the transaction expected to support its next phase.
Reports have also suggested that LIV’s planned season-ending Team Championship in Michigan may no longer take place. Tickets for the event were removed from sale, while the league’s season is now expected to conclude with an event in the Indianapolis area from August 20 to 23.
Possible Return to Traditional Golf Tours
Rahm’s possible exit has increased speculation about a return to traditional golf tours.
The Spaniard recently reached an agreement with the DP World Tour that allowed him to retain membership and protect his eligibility for future Ryder Cup selection. The agreement involved settling fines connected to his LIV Golf participation and committing to play a number of DP World Tour events.
This has fuelled speculation that Rahm could increase his participation on the DP World Tour or explore other opportunities in professional golf.
For now, though, there is no official confirmation of where Rahm would play if he leaves LIV Golf. His reported exit should therefore be treated as an ongoing development rather than a completed move.
