The family of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs John-Paul was taking her children to school in the Oyo State capital.

In a statement issued by Comrade Femi Awogboro, Media Aide to Chief Adelabu, the family described the incident as distressing and unfortunate, while expressing confidence in the efforts of security agencies to secure the victims’ release.

According to the statement, Mrs John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of five children of Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

It was further revealed that she had worked with both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.

Following her retirement, she reportedly relocated to Ibadan with her children and was making arrangements to join her husband, Mr John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.

The family said security and law enforcement agencies were immediately alerted after the incident was reported.

Security operatives have since begun investigations and initiated efforts aimed at rescuing the victims and tracking down the abductors.

According to the statement, authorities have assured the family that preliminary investigations are already underway and response efforts are ongoing.

The Adelabu family expressed deep concern over the development but said they remain hopeful that the victims will be safely rescued.

They also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could interfere with ongoing security operations.

“We respectfully appeal to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from circulating unverified information that may jeopardise ongoing security operations,” the statement said.

The family further requested prayers and support from Nigerians during the difficult period, while urging anyone with useful information to report to relevant security authorities.

Security agencies are expected to intensify search and rescue operations as investigations continue.
