The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has announced renewed efforts to expand Nigeria’s film industry beyond its traditional centres, with a particular focus on Kaduna State as an emerging creative hub.

The commitment was made during a stakeholders’ engagement held at the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall in Kaduna, where the NFVCB Executive Director/CEO, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, met with film associations, guild representatives, and officials from the Kaduna State Ministry of Business and Innovation.

At the meeting, Dr. Husseini revealed plans to host the grand finale of the Nigerian Indigenous Film Showcase in Kaduna, a move expected to boost local film production, talent development, and economic activity within the state’s growing creative ecosystem.

He said the initiative aligns with the Board’s broader vision of using the creative industry as a driver of national development and regional inclusion.

Dr. Husseini also assured stakeholders of upcoming training programmes aimed at equipping filmmakers with modern skills needed to remain competitive in an evolving global industry.

However, he issued a strong warning over the rising trend of unapproved film releases on digital platforms such as YouTube, stressing that regulatory compliance would now be strictly enforced to uphold professionalism and industry standards.

In her remarks, Mrs. Rhoda Dandura, Acting Director of the Licensing and Documentation Department, urged filmmakers to embrace responsible storytelling, emphasizing the need for content that reflects positive societal values and protects younger audiences.

Stakeholders at the session described the engagement as productive and forward-looking, noting that it reflects the NFVCB’s commitment to balancing regulation with industry growth.

The representative of the Kaduna State Ministry of Business and Innovation, Mr. Zwahu Yanwaidi, pledged the state government’s support for the planned showcase and training initiatives, describing them as vital to strengthening Kaduna’s position in Nigeria’s creative economy.

The NFVCB reaffirmed its commitment to sustained engagement with industry players and promised continued collaboration aimed at building a more professional and economically viable film sector across the country.
