Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, has arrived at Eagle Square for the 2026 National Police Day Grand Parade and Procession.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Stanley Nkowcha, the Vice President took the salute from officers on parade as the ceremony commenced.

“Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently taking the salute from officers on parade as the 2026 National Police Day ceremony gets underway,” the statement said.

The event brought together senior government officials, security chiefs, and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, alongside officers drawn from different parts of the country.

Organisers said the celebration would also honour police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving the nation.

The formal parade and ceremonial honours marked the opening of the event, with officers of the Nigeria Police Force lined up in full parade formation to receive the Vice President.

National Police Day is officially marked on April 7 each year to celebrate the contributions of the police to national security.

According to the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, the week-long activities surrounding the celebration feature medical outreaches, community engagement programmes, and exhibitions by security firms and partners.

Adejobi described the celebration as historic, noting that it recognises the dedication, sacrifices, and contributions of police personnel in ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country.

He added that the event also serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration between the police and the public while reinforcing trust in the force.
