The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on Friday joined Muslim faithful to observe Eid al-Fitr prayers at Ramat Square in Maiduguri.

Thousands of worshippers gathered at the expansive prayer ground, which was filled to capacity in a remarkable show of faith, unity, and devotion.

The Eid prayers were led by the Chief Imam of Borno State, Shettima Mamman Saleh. The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume, and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, alongside other prominent indigenes of the state.

Speaking with journalists after the prayers, Vice President Shettima expressed optimism that insecurity across Nigeria would soon be brought under control through proactive efforts by both federal and state authorities.

He called on Nigerians to embrace unity, noting that the convergence of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season presents a unique opportunity for reflection, tolerance, and national cohesion.

According to him, meaningful national progress cannot be achieved without peace. He stressed the need for citizens to work together in addressing shared challenges such as insecurity and underdevelopment.

The Vice President also commended the people and leadership of Borno State for their resilience and commitment to peace, harmony, and progress despite ongoing challenges.

Earlier in his sermon, the Chief Imam urged Muslim faithful to sustain the lessons of Ramadan, including discipline, sacrifice, and devotion, beyond the holy month. He emphasized continued piety, compassion, and social responsibility as key pillars for building a peaceful and united society.
