The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday dismissed reports claiming an increase in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration fees, calling the claim “false, misleading and entirely unfounded.”
Fabian Benjamin, JAMB spokesperson, reiterated that the approved fees remain N5,700 for direct entry, N7,200 for UTME only, and N8,700 for UTME with mock examination. He provided a detailed breakdown of the charges:
- N3,500 for application
- N1,000 for reading text
- N700 for computer-based test (CBT) centre registration service
- N1,500 for CBT centre UTME service
- N500 for bank charges
- N1,500 for CBT mock-UTME charge
“These fees have remained unchanged since 2019,” Benjamin said. He also recalled that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council reduced the UTME application fee from N5,000 to N3,500, effective from the 2019 registration exercise.
The board urged candidates to rely only on official information from verified platforms and advertisements, warning against being misled by unofficial sources. Candidates who have been charged more than the approved fees are encouraged to report the centres with credible evidence for prompt investigation and disciplinary action.
“JAMB remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of candidates’ interests at all times,” Benjamin added.
