Odogbolu Council Breaks Ground on N3.5bn Truck Park to Boost Economy and Jobs

The Odogbolu Truck Stop is expected to tackle challenges posed by indiscriminate parking on Nigeria’s major highways while turning a longstanding problem into a revenue-generating opportunity for the council.

The Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Dr Babatunde Diya, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the council’s economic prosperity through job creation and investment facilitation.

Diya made the statement on Friday while performing the groundbreaking of a N3.5 billion truck park along the Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway, a project initiated by the local government. The facility is designed to boost internally generated revenue and drive sustainable development in the area.

According to Diya, the truck park will provide a safe and organized parking space for heavy-duty vehicles, reducing accidents on expressways, improving environmental safety, and creating employment opportunities, particularly for youths.

“This N3.5bn Odogbolu Truck Stop Project represents a monumental stride toward modernising local infrastructure, expanding the economy, and boosting job creation,” Diya said. “This ultramodern facility will feature parking lots, fuel stations, maintenance bays, hotels, restaurants, drivers’ lodges, and recreational spaces, and is expected to create over 300 direct and indirect jobs. It will empower our youths, attract investors, and make Odogbolu a logistics and investment hub.”

The Chairman also acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing leadership that enables good governance at the grassroots level.

Speaking on the project, Deputy CEO of TGroup and 1st TruckStops, Mr Oyeyemi Oke, highlighted the importance of infrastructure to trade and logistics. “Trade cannot thrive without logistics, and logistics cannot thrive without infrastructure. The Odogbolu Truck Stop is designed to become the backbone of trade along the 49km Sagamu–Benin Expressway,” he said.

Similarly, Managing Director of TruckBus and Odogbolu TruckStops, Oluwaseun Mamoye, described the project as a transformative investment. “Every truck that parks, every driver that rests, and every business that operates here contributes to a cycle of productivity and recurring revenue. With Nigeria’s road haulage industry valued in billions, the opportunity before us is immense,” he noted.

Olufemi Ogunbanwo, representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, commended the council for its foresight, calling the initiative a legacy project that will empower future generations. Hon. Dennis Ogunnaike, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Technology Innovation, also praised Diya for aligning with Governor Abiodun’s vision.
