The Nigerian Army has arrested Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, popularly known as “Gentle De Yahoo”, a notorious militant and alleged commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
According to military sources, troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade apprehended the suspect during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Aku-Ihube, Okigwe LGA of Imo State, where he had been hiding.
Recovered from the hideout were a cache of weapons, military and police uniforms, and items linked to criminal activity, including:
-
One English-made pistol
-
120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
-
25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition
-
Six mobile phones
-
A dismantling workshop for stolen vehicles
-
A German flag reportedly used by the group
Authorities also destroyed 10 motorcycles allegedly used for terror operations.
In a video circulating on social media, Gentle De Yahoo is seen making serious allegations against Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, claiming the governor held meetings with him and other militant commanders. The suspect accuses Uzodinma of being directly involved in the insecurity affecting the South-East region.
He is heard saying:
“If Hope Uzodinma is denying that he did not have meetings with me and my master and the rest of the commanders… let him swear. If he swears, he must die.”
As of now, Governor Uzodinma has not issued an official response to the viral allegations. Security analysts say investigations will be crucial in determining the credibility of the claims.
The Nigerian Army and other security agencies continue to intensify operations aimed at dismantling armed groups operating in the region.
