The South-South PDP Youth Amalgamation has voiced strong opposition to the recently formed alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, branding it a “desperate bid for personal ascendancy.”
In a statement released by its convener, John Albert Clarkson, the group described the coalition as inconsistent, opportunistic, and devoid of ideological substance. The statement emphasized that the alliance only highlights the pattern of “contradictions and deceptions” that have long defined the political trajectories of both Atiku and El-Rufai.
“Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai have made promises that often fail to materialize,” Clarkson said. “Their recent political alignment reeks of desperation — a last-ditch effort to regain relevance by two figures whose brand of politics is increasingly rejected by Nigerians.”
The youth group expressed unwavering support for the PDP Governors Forum, under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who recently rejected the Atiku-El-Rufai coalition. The group commended the governors for taking a bold stand, affirming the PDP’s commitment to integrity and the welfare of the Nigerian people.
According to Clarkson, the governors’ decision sends a clear signal that the PDP is focused on national development, not personal ambition.
“This rejection is not just political; it’s a declaration of intent to uphold the values of integrity, accountability, and true service,” the statement read.
The South-South PDP Youth Amalgamation urged Nigerians to support a credible platform like the PDP, which they say is better equipped to tackle the country’s challenges and usher in sustainable progress.
“The time has come to unite behind a party that listens, learns, and leads with integrity. We must put the collective good above all else.”
