Edo Refinery Set to Boost Local Oil Production as NMDPRA Grants Operational License

The Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited has received its operational license from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to enhance local refining capacity.

The license, issued to the refinery located in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, signifies the final regulatory approval needed for the plant to commence full operations.

NMDPRA Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Farouk, officially handed over the certificate to AIPCC, the parent company of Edo Refinery, during a ceremony on Tuesday. Accompanied by Executive Director Francis Ogaree, Farouk praised the refinery for reaching this critical stage and urged the company to continue its efforts in contributing to Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

The operationalization of the Edo Refinery is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing Nigeria’s dependency on imported refined petroleum products, addressing local fuel needs, and creating jobs within the region. This development aligns with the federal government’s broader strategy to strengthen the country’s refining capacity and ensure energy security.

The issuance of the license not only enables the Edo Refinery to begin full-scale operations but also underscores the NMDPRA’s commitment to supporting indigenous companies in the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors. As the refinery gears up for production, stakeholders are optimistic about its potential impact on both the local economy and the national oil industry.
