The Senate has officially confirmed Mr. Zacch Adedeji as the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Adedeji’s nomination received a majority vote of approval during the Senate’s plenary session on Tuesday, solidifying his position as the FIRS Chairman.
During the confirmation process, Adedeji articulated his vision for enhancing the nation’s revenue collection. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the organization’s data mining capabilities to make informed tax decisions.
Adedeji identified the lack of comprehensive financial information on firms within the oil and gas sector as a significant source of revenue leakage. He pledged to address this issue and improve revenue collection within the sector.
Additionally, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally submitted a request to the Senate, seeking their approval for the appointment of Mr. Shaakaa Chira as the Auditor-General for the Federation. President Tinubu had previously approved Mr. Chira’s appointment after a rigorous screening exercise conducted by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), which identified him as the most qualified candidate, having achieved the highest score among all eligible candidates during the examination for the position.
