Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of new appointments and tenure renewals across key education institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, including the National Examinations Council, the National Board for Technical Education, the National Library of Nigeria, and the Federal Polytechnic in N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State.
The President appointed Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO while retaining the current Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.
Prof. Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration at Obafemi Awolowo University, is a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and previously served as Chairman of NBTE between 2018 and 2021.
For the National Board for Technical Education, the President appointed Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman. Salako, a respected medical researcher, previously served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research from 2016 to 2024, where he led institutional reforms and expanded research capacity.
The President also renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria for another five-year term.
Since her initial appointment in 2021, Prof. Anunobi has overseen major reforms, including the development of digital systems such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library, as well as efforts to modernise archival and research infrastructure.
She has also played a key role in advancing the completion of the National Library Headquarters project in Abuja and strengthening the institution’s strategic direction.
In the polytechnic sector, Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term.
He succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
The Presidency said the appointments and renewals are aimed at strengthening leadership, ensuring continuity of reforms, and improving governance across federal education institutions.
