NDDC Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment in Niger Delta Region

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has re-affirmed its dedication to initiatives aimed at empowering the youth in the Niger Delta region. This commitment underscores the Commission’s ongoing efforts to foster development and create sustainable opportunities for young people in the area.

During a recent press conference, the NDDC’s Acting Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized the importance of youth empowerment as a cornerstone of the Commission’s strategic development agenda. He highlighted various programmes designed to equip young people with essential skills, improve their employability, and encourage entrepreneurship.

“Our focus is on creating a conducive environment where the youth of the Niger Delta can thrive,” Dr. Ogbuku stated. “We believe that by investing in the potential of our young people, we are investing in the future of the entire region.”

The NDDC’s youth empowerment initiatives include vocational training, scholarship programs, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Commission has also partnered with various educational and professional institutions to provide mentorship and career guidance to young individuals.

One of the flagship programmes is the Youth Employment and Support Scheme (YESS), which offers training in areas such as information technology, agriculture, and manufacturing. The scheme aims to bridge the skills gap and provide the youth with the tools needed to succeed in the modern economy.

In addition, the NDDC has launched several community development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and access to basic services, further enhancing the quality of life for residents of the Niger Delta. These projects include the construction of schools, healthcare facilities, and roads.

Dr. Ogbuku also addressed the challenges facing the Commission, including funding and logistical issues, but reiterated the NDDC’s resolve to overcome these obstacles and deliver on its promises. “We are committed to transparency and accountability in all our operations, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that every project is completed to the highest standard,” he added.

The youth of the Niger Delta have expressed optimism about the NDDC’s renewed focus on empowerment. Many have highlighted the positive impact of the Commission’s programmes on their lives and communities.

As the NDDC continues to roll out these initiatives, the Commission calls on all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, and community leaders, to support their efforts in creating a brighter future for the youth of the Niger Delta.
