The Lagos State Government has announced that 6,465,667 residents have been captured in the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency database as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen planning, governance, and public service delivery.

The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, disclosed the figures during the state’s annual ministerial press briefing marking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s seventh year in office.

According to the breakdown, 4,058,333 adults and 2,407,224 children have been registered under the Lagos identity management initiative.

Alake explained that the Lagos Identity Card project (LAG ID) is central to the state’s governance strategy and supports improved planning, policy execution, and resource allocation.

He described the system as a key tool for building a comprehensive resident database that enhances efficiency across government services.

“The identity management initiative is designed to provide the government with a comprehensive database for planning, policy implementation and effective allocation of resources,” he said.

He added that the system operates on an open framework that allows coordination between government agencies and private sector partners while maintaining centralised data infrastructure.

On enforcement and digital monitoring, Alake revealed that about 737,000 digital traffic-related tracking cases have been recorded to date, with 86,000 captured in recent months.

He also highlighted the “Art and Technology Lagos” initiative as an annual platform aimed at strengthening collaboration within the tech ecosystem and advancing the state’s smart city agenda.

On data protection, he said Lagos currently has 109 data protection officers tasked with safeguarding residents’ personal information and ensuring compliance with privacy standards.

The commissioner further noted that government digital platforms receive about 250,000 monthly visits, with backend analytics used to monitor engagement and service delivery performance.

On infrastructure development, Alake stated that Lagos has deployed approximately 3,000 kilometres of fibre optic duct infrastructure across key areas including Alimosho, Ikorodu, and Ibeju-Lekki.

He added that the state plans to expand this to 5,000 kilometres through increased private sector participation.

The Lagos State Government said the identity and digital infrastructure initiatives are part of broader efforts to build a smarter, more efficient, and data-driven public service system.
