Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has expressed openness to working with former presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid growing political realignments and coalition talks.

Kwankwaso made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he discussed emerging cooperation under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

He confirmed that discussions between political actors, including Obi, were ongoing, particularly around strategies to address insecurity and promote stability in the country.

“Both of us, my humble self and Peter Obi, have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country,” Kwankwaso said.

When asked about the possibility of serving as a running mate should Obi emerge as a presidential candidate, Kwankwaso responded positively, saying he would be willing to support a joint ticket if the party decides.

“If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the south under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him,” he said.

He further expressed confidence in a potential partnership, describing it as a strong leadership combination capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

“Personally, I cannot remember any better combination… to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country,” he added.

Both politicians are reported to have recently aligned under the Nigeria Democratic Congress following their departure from their former political platforms, as coalition discussions intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
