Efforts to end the ongoing Iran conflict remain stalled after the Donald Trump rejected the latest proposal from Tehran, deepening uncertainty around a war that has already disrupted global energy flows and international trade routes.

According to U.S. officials, Iran’s most recent offer suggested postponing discussions on its nuclear programme until the conflict ends and shipping disputes are resolved. However, Washington insists that nuclear issues must be addressed at the outset of any negotiation process.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Iran had informed the United States that it was in a “state of collapse” and requested urgent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil shipments.

There has been no confirmation from Tehran regarding the alleged communication, and Iranian authorities have not publicly responded to Trump’s statement.

The Iran has reportedly restricted maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz since the war began on February 28, allowing passage primarily for its own vessels. In response, the United States has reportedly moved to block Iranian shipping activity in the Gulf.

An Iranian military spokesperson told state media that the Islamic Republic does not consider the war over, signaling continued resistance despite mounting international pressure.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had instructed aides to prepare for a prolonged blockade of Iranian ports, further raising concerns over global energy security.

The conflict, which has reportedly killed thousands, has also unsettled global energy markets and disrupted supply chains. Hopes for diplomatic progress weakened after the cancellation of a planned mediation trip by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner to Pakistan.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reportedly travelled to Islamabad twice over the weekend in an effort to revive talks.

Analysts say internal shifts in Iran’s leadership structure following the killing of senior figures in U.S.-Israeli strikes have complicated decision-making in Tehran. Reports suggest increased influence by hardline elements within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, contributing to a more rigid negotiating posture.

Uncertainty over Iran’s political hierarchy and ongoing military escalation have further dimmed prospects for a near-term diplomatic resolution, while global attention remains focused on the strategic Strait of Hormuz and its impact on energy supplies.
