Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters after recording a convincing straight-sets victory over American Jenson Brooksby.

Davidovich won 6–1, 6–3, producing an impressive performance to move closer to the latter stages of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

According to Spanish sports publication AS on October 9, 2026, the Spaniard controlled much of the contest through aggressive returning and effective baseline play.

Davidovich made an immediate impact in the opening set, breaking Brooksby’s serve twice to establish a commanding advantage. His ability to put pressure on the American’s service games helped him dictate the pace of the match.

Brooksby attempted to respond at the beginning of the second set, but Davidovich remained composed during the more competitive exchanges.

The Spaniard continued to attack his opponent’s serve, securing two further breaks to close out the match 6–3 and complete a comfortable victory.

The result is an encouraging development for Davidovich, who recently won the title in Chengdu and has been looking to maintain his momentum on the ATP Tour.

His performance in Shanghai demonstrates the value of strong returning and consistency against opponents who rely on changing the rhythm of rallies.

Davidovich will next face American Frances Tiafoe, who advanced after defeating Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann 6–4, 6–4.

The upcoming meeting is expected to provide a tougher test for the Spaniard, as Tiafoe possesses considerable experience at major tournaments and is capable of producing powerful attacking tennis.

The two players have met several times previously, with Tiafoe holding a 3–1 advantage in their head-to-head record before their next encounter. Davidovich, however, has previously beaten the American on hard courts, giving him reason to believe he can challenge his opponent.

The Shanghai Masters is one of the ATP Tour’s most important tournaments outside the four Grand Slams. It attracts leading players from around the world and offers valuable ranking points as the men’s season approaches its final stages.

A deep run in the competition could help Davidovich strengthen his ranking position and build confidence following his recent success in Chengdu.

The Spaniard will need to maintain his serving consistency, exploit opportunities on return and limit unforced errors if he hopes to progress further.

Tiafoe, meanwhile, will be looking to use his experience and attacking style to prevent Davidovich from controlling the rallies.

With both players seeking a place in the later rounds, their encounter is expected to be an important test of form and tactical discipline.
