State-owned Ethiopian Airlines recorded a 20 percent increase in revenue for the 2025/26 financial year, with earnings rising to $9.1 billion, according to the Ethiopia News Agency.

The airline, Africa’s largest carrier, also reported a 10 percent increase in passenger traffic, carrying 20.7 million passengers during the financial year, which ended on July 7.

Cargo operations also posted strong growth, with freight volumes increasing by 16 percent year-on-year to 897,000 metric tons.

Ethiopian Airlines continued to expand its operations during the year by adding nine aircraft to its fleet, which now consists of more than 150 aircraft.

In April, the airline announced plans to purchase six additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to strengthen its long-haul operations.

The carrier also disclosed in June that it would decide within three months on an order for 25 smaller commercial jets to expand its domestic and regional network.

In addition to fleet expansion, the airline upgraded its facilities at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to support its growing operations.

While the company did not release its profit figures, the Ethiopia News Agency reported that its financial performance was affected by flight cancellations linked to conflict in the Middle East and the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Despite these challenges, Ethiopian Airlines maintained strong revenue growth, reflecting continued demand for its passenger and cargo services across Africa and international markets.
