Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, has visited a 10-year-old boy receiving treatment after allegedly being subjected to abuse and maltreatment by his guardian.

She was accompanied by the Commissioner for Health, Afam Obidike, during a hospital visit following her directive to the Ministry of Health to ensure the child received comprehensive medical care and support.

Speaking after the visit, Nonye Soludo said she went to assess the boy’s condition and offer encouragement as he continues his recovery process. She noted that medical updates indicated steady improvement.

“I thank the medical team, concerned citizens, and everyone who has shown love, compassion and concern during this difficult time,” she said.

According to her, although the child still requires ongoing medical attention, emotional care, proper nutrition, and close monitoring, his recovery progress so far has been encouraging.

She described the incident as a serious reminder of society’s responsibility to protect vulnerable children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

“Remember, if you see something, always endeavour to say something. Prompt reporting can help save lives and protect vulnerable children,” she added.

Nonye Soludo also assured that her office would continue to monitor the boy’s rehabilitation and provide necessary support throughout his recovery.

She further urged residents to report cases of abuse and emergencies through the state’s emergency hotlines, 112 and 5111, emphasizing the importance of swift intervention in protecting at-risk children.

The visit has drawn renewed attention to child welfare and safeguarding systems in Anambra State, with calls for stronger community reporting mechanisms and enforcement of child protection laws.
